How We Operate

Our department is structured such that EMS and Fire conduct their day-to-day operations separately, but with cooperation and mutual support between the two groups. Our company is lead by a Board of Directors consisting of both Firefighters and EMS personnel, along with a Secretary and a Treasurer (who are neither EMS nor Fire).

Pickerel Fire

Pickerel Fire is 100% volunteer and serves the Town of Nashville (southern half) and the Town if Ainsworth. They respond to brush fires, vehicle accidents, and structure fires.

Firefighting isn’t just about going into burning buildings, they also need people to drive the tanker trucks, operate the pumps, and to fulfill various other support roles.

Pickerel EMS

Pickerel EMS, also known as the Pickerel Rescue Squad, is paid-on-call. They receive a nominal hourly rate for each hour they are scheduled to staff the ambulance. While on call, members must remain within the bounds of our service area and must be ready to respond to the ambulance when the radio tone goes off, but otherwise are free to go about their daily lives. Shifts are typically in 12-hour or 24-hour blocks and scheduled a month at a time.

We’re also looking to increase the number of individuals within our service are that are qualified to at least the EMR level (Emergency Medical Responder) so that when a time-critical emergency occurs, help can go directly to scene and start stabilizing the patient(s) while the ambulance is still enroute.

 Women’s Auxility (“The Flames”)

The Flames are an independent group of community members who have banded together to support our department. They hold fundraisers (such as their annual Wreath Sale), bring food & refreshments when Fire/EMS are on a scene for extended periods (such as structure fires or search & rescue), and anything else they can think of to help support our first responders.
